Hi,

I am considering networking 2 PCs in seperate rooms which, I think, will require at least a 10 metre cable. Will there be a performance decrease in the transfer of files and in multiplayer gaming?

Thanks

cat5 is good for 100 meters. strong interference can affect performance, but it has to be strong, like wrapping a cable around a drill and running it at full speed, hehehe

Thanks! But do you know if it is easy to network a Win98 PC to a WinXP PC. I've had a good look through this forum and have encountered a few people who have had problems. I'm tempted to downgrade the WinXP PC to Win98. Or can I use the same XP CD to install XP onto the Win98 machine somehow.......?

I agree. Microsoft make networking Windows pretty easy.

Thanks-will your method work if I'm not using a router? I will be connecting the 2 PCs by using a crossover cable only.

Thanks again
