Windows 7 x64 upgrade vs full

I have Vista 32 bit now, but want to go to Windows 7 64 bit. I can't quite figure out what qualifies for the upgrade price, rather than the full version, $90 more.

Since it's not an in-place upgrade, will I have to buy the full version of Windows 7?

  1. The upgrade version will suit you fine, as long as it detects a version of vista when you boot from the DVD i.e. dont reformat before you try to install.
    Hope this helps

StaggaDee is right, however you won't be able to do an in-place upgrade from Vista to 7 due to the architecture difference between 32 and 64 bit.
