treo600 with ESN issues--help!

hey all

i bought a treo 600 off ebay. 1st mistake. it has the verizon logo on it and
is in every way a verizon phone, EXCEPT--verizon doesnt recognize the ESNs
(dec or hex) as being on their list when i cslled to switch from my old
phone to the treo. they said they still support 600s 100% and wouldnt tell
me what was wrong other than to say the ESN was not theres.

1.) why would this be the case? think it was flashed for use with sprint or
something?
2.) how do i rectify the situation so i can get it to work on verizon's
network?
