I currently am running Windows XP media center edition 2008 and i am planning to run windows 7. Do i have to purchase the full version or the just the upgrade???

You should be eligible for the upgrade... just not sure exactly what version. Media center was basically Pro with a fancy multimedia shell built in. So whether you're eligible for Home Premium or Pro, I'm not sure... but my best guess is Home Premium.

Windows XP users can upgrade to any version of W7 due to the fact that a clean install is required. The Home Premium is all you will likely need.
