Hmmm... that was nothing compared to what happened to Ulrich.
Ulrich felt in a critical time etape, where every milisecond counts... Armstrong fell in a mountain etape, and to keep everything fair the head group he was in slowed down to Ulrich's command and waited for him. So you can't really compare the two incidents.
And no... no-one ever won 6 times.

He crashed during a time trial. But that's the breaks. It's like saying - If the receiver had caught that pass, our team would have won; if I'd worked a little harder, then I would have done better ... etc. Lance Armstrong had the stomach flu at the beginning of the Tour - if he had been in perfect health, he might have won by much more.
Urlich had every opportunity to get his butt up and grind just like Armstrong did.

Any of you guys read Lance Armstrongs book, Cant recommend it highly enough, It may well be the best book Ive ever read, Maybe Sun Tzyu's "The Art of war" may be better
The thing about armstrong is that this guy is a farking masochist. I mean my track coach read me something he wrote as an inspiration to the team- it was like life is pain, you must love pain, pain is what you should strive for.
All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening.
Why is everyone giving all of the credit to lance? I mean seriously. he didn't do it by himself. He had a team. His team broke the wind for him most of the way and he just stayed behind them until it was time to break away. He wrecked his bike and totally f'd it up. His team member gave him his bike. With out his team Lance couldn't have done this. I just hate seeing one guy get all of the credit for the work of many.

I see your point of view, but the guy did have a fairly nasty case of testicular cancer, w/ secondary tumors all over the place... To even compete again in such an event shows amazing determination, but the guy has won. 5 times since... Hats off to the guy!

$hit Happens. I just wish it would happen to someone else for a change.
According to my dad (who is a real fast-cycling fanatic... he is following the important Tours for a couple of douzens years and got books full of paper articles about the Tour de France) Armstron won because of 2 two falling cyclers (Ulrich and Beloci) and the team time trail. I really wonder if he will win next year.
I mean Ulrich just came back to cycling after a heck of a bad period... if he improves and the other change makers do to Lance is in serious trouble.

If Lance wins next year, then yes he will be the greatest Tour de France rider, But he still isnt as good as Eddie Merx, Eddie rode in everything and won everything, he didnt limit himself to just the tour, Eddie rode in all sorts of events, If he had limited himself to the Tour he may well have won it a lot more, but who knows
Well if he wins a sixth time I agree he's the best in the Tour de France (not the best of the entire world... as said you forgot people like Eddie Mercx).
If he looses next year he will still be one of the few that have mamaged to win the Tour de France five time.
