(All these shemps appear to be out of Kansas City. Maybe they out

17:47 Allan Snyder> hello Matt
17:48 Matt> Welcome to Gateway.com. My name is Matt and I will be your
E-Sales Executive today. Can I get your phone number before we get
started?
17:48 Allan Snyder> Doesn't the chat application ask for that up
front?
17:49 Matt> sorry about that.
17:49 Matt> Thanks! How are you today? What can I do for you?
17:49 Allan Snyder> A quick question
17:49 Allan Snyder> can I pay extra and get a retail versus OEM copy
of Windows with a new gateway?
17:50 Matt> no there is really not a way to do that
17:50 Allan Snyder> oh
17:50 Matt> why were you wanting the retail version with it
17:50 Allan Snyder> a couple of reasons
17:51 Allan Snyder> that's the only way to get M$ to talk to you over
any problem you might have
17:51 Allan Snyder> also
17:51 Allan Snyder> you can resell that copy of Windows if you are not
using Windows.
17:52 Matt> well you can go through out tech support if you have a
problem
17:52 Matt> Microsoft does not allow Pc makers to do that since you
would get it with a system and then like you said sell it and that
would not be legal
17:52 Allan Snyder> the only reason I'd ever call GW or dell tech
support is a bad component, after you've found it
17:53 Allan Snyder> a retail copy can be resold as long as you do not
keep a copy
17:53 Allan Snyder> We have 35 PCs at work and 17 run Windows
17:53 Matt> well the FTC does not allow a Pc to be sold without an
Operating system loaded onto it, only servers
17:53 Allan Snyder> ???
17:54 Matt> so that is why we can not sell the retail version with it,
it has to have an OS installed on it
17:54 Allan Snyder> cite me the regulation
17:54 Allan Snyder> I have dealt with FTC regulation a lot
17:55 Matt> ok well then you should know then, the FTC does not allow
us to sell Pcs that are not in working condition with an OS. It has to
have some sort of OS on it
17:55 Allan Snyder> I was in the Mobile Refrigerator business for 20
years
17:56 Matt> and linux and windows are the two main ones. we dont sell
Linux since it is not popular
17:56 Allan Snyder> that's a different field, but I know where to find
FTC regs and decrees
17:56 Matt> so i guess then your refrigerators were truly running
then. haha sorry i could not resist
17:57 Allan Snyder> Yeah.
17:57 Matt> but i guess the answer to your question is no we can not
sell it with the retail copy
17:57 Matt> what are you going to be using the new PC for?
17:57 Allan Snyder> They ran on Propane, 12 Volt or 120 Volt
electricity
17:57 Allan Snyder> this machine is for me, but I run linux.
17:58 Allan Snyder> I work for an Automotive Dealership
17:58 Allan Snyder> we have gateways and dells
17:58 Matt> oh i see
17:58 Allan Snyder> they are identical, inside
17:58 Matt> close, but Dells support does not come close to ours
17:59 Matt> Dell outsources over 50% of their employees to overseas
countries. So the level of support you can expect does not come close
to ours.
17:59 Allan Snyder> anyway I want you to find that FTC Regulation or
Decree of Consent
17:59 Allan Snyder> I have been Wrong before, but I don't think so
this time
18:01 Matt> well i know what i have been trained on and they have told
me that is the reason we do not sell it without an OS. The reason we
do not is really irrelevant. The fact that we do not sell it without
an OS is your real questions. I really dont see the point in digging
around to try to copy and paste an FTC regulation in the chat.
18:01 Allan Snyder> Ok
18:01 Allan Snyder> you have my email
18:01 Allan Snyder> if/when you Find it let me Know
18:02 Matt> was there a certain model Pc i can help answer questions
about
18:02 Allan Snyder> If you're right I will buy a system and send you a
Omaha Steaks paper
18:02 Allan Snyder> we give'em to new car buyers
18:03 Allan Snyder> $100 worth of Steaks
18:03 Matt> haha ok i will hold you to it, i have that here in writing
now! haha
18:03 Allan Snyder> Are you in Sioux Falls?
18:04 Matt> im in KC
18:04 Allan Snyder> ?
18:05 Matt> kansas city
18:05 Allan Snyder> ok-they are big on steak over there too...
18:05 Allan Snyder> Well let me know! Do you guys have a BBQ Grill?
18:06 Matt> oh yeah KC is pretty big into barbecue that is for sure,
18:07 Allan Snyder> Well, good luck. Let me know...
18:07 Allan Snyder> Snyder out!
18:07 Matt> ok will do. talk to you soon
