Ok, I've been on my parent's ass to let me drive- no. They let me drive the car once around the block (it's a circle, practically no traffic except those who own a house here). Ok, they were freaking out when I went above 5mph and once I went into the driveway, they said no more. Fvckin retarded. Then, I'm not allowed to walk in NYC by myself, not allowed to run cause I may break my leg again or get hit by a car, and I'm also not allowed to get my new bench and weightset cause I might kill myself. WTF is this??? Every night I argue and scream at them, and they don't get it. Seriously this is pathetic. Any ideas? I mean the money I made over the summer now I'm not allowed to spend without their permission, yet it's mine damnit. Hell, on the 20 mile hike I went this saturday they wouldn't let me go cause I might injure myself. I just said go to hell and got up at 6:00 and left.

Oh man that sucks. Aren't you like 15 or something? Just wait till your my age, 17, than things are better cuz whenever I'm pissed, I just drive to a friend's house. Are you getting your own car?

---I remember you talking about running. I do Cross Country and Track. What are your best times:
-1 mile?
-3.1 miles?
Ideas? Simply plan a really good arguement and have it with them. In my experience, educational and calm arguements usually win vs. yelling.

You could try talking calmly with your parents.
Yelling and swearing at them will make them defensive and less likely allow you explore your freedom.
When you ask to do something and they don't let you do what you want ask them why. Try to understand their point of view. Eventually you will earn their trust and respect. You will gain your freedom and be able to do what you want when you want to.
Until that happens you will have to make compromises with your parents. You will get some of the freedom you want just by being polite and reasonable with your parents.
Don't think of your compromise as a concession. Think of it as manipulation. It will make you feel better.
If you want to learn a few tricks. Watch the movie 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'.

I'm more for speed running (55m, 100m, 200m) even did 400m 2 years ago, but now I focus more on shotput and discus. I can pull a mile in a little under 6 if I huff and I puff, but you cross country guys are sick, just fly by me hehe. Now though, after not running for months and barely having lifted weights, I'll bet you I'm slower in anything over 100m. I'm 16, turning 17 in February. See if I don't get my permit by September, I have to wait 6 months cause of a new law. I've seriously been avoiding em, I come home for 5 mins (in that 5 mins I eat dinner if I have time) and then off I go somewhere. But still, weekends suck and they let me hear no end of it if I don't spend quality time. I've tried logic reasoning, tried yelling, it doesn't work.
All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening.
I do ask why, they say because you'll hurt yourself. Every time. What concerns me and pisses me off is that this thing has happened suddenly, ie in the last 2 weeks they became like this. Before, aside from not letting me drive, everything else was fine.
All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening.
From what you have said it seems they're are not telling you everything.
Ask them why they think you are going to hurt yourself.
You said this started all of sudden two weeks ago. It makes me think that a third party is involved.
Have your parents been looking through your personal stuff lately? Do they think you are drinking or taking drugs?
Parents do weird $hit sometimes.
Are they upset that you have a summer job?

Don't get offended over what I say but the way I look at it, is you've earned it by yourself, this reaction (parents being strict). You ARE wild. If I could count the times you've talked about risky situations you've undertook or simply things your parents disapprove of doing, it's fairly obvious you had it coming.
Even at work you proved to not be serious, when you did that prank. Parents at work, are serious, face it. You, are still 16 with a kid's mind. It just ain't gonna work yer way and they will continue wanting to piss ya off simply because your risky way of doing things, and wild, is NOT their cup of tea. Most likely they expect differently from their "intelligent little boy".
The only way things will change is if you start a slow different home attitude (that includes them not hearing about what you did outside), calm, funny and smiley. No pranks, nothing. Take it this way, it's a slow recovery, but I am pretty sure the parents will feel different, as they would suddenly be under the assumption that you "matured their way".

Actually, yeah, my dad is upset that I am working cause he thinks it's a waste of time (funny how I learned more in a week than an year of entire ap comp sci class at work...). I don't think they think I'm doing drugs or drinking, my dad has offered me beer or a drink at coporate parties and I have refused it, so I doubt that. Drugs I don't think so either, I mean all my good friends are against drugs, so am I.

No, I am not talking about wild as in rambunctious or rebellious, gone for drugs and drinking. I am simply talking from the POV they employ, which I am betting is a conservative POV. And because of that, they will see you as simply doing too much risky stuff or wild-child stuff. And NOT rebellious. I am sure they trust you don't do drugs or drink.
It's so often that those who do, have parents who don't doubt anything about their child and believe everything he tells them. That child is likely to be a drug-dealer drinker.

Out of curiosity, what do ur parents see u as? Do you spend most of your time on the comp so they don't worry or are they constantly annoying you cause you forgot to call?

When I was 12 I started a bike shop. Bought a dirtbike when I was 14. When I was 15 I sold everything and converted it to a dirtbike shop. I was building custom racing bikes and racing on leftover scraps from customers. Built up a 1976 Pinto in my back yard. When I was 19 I bought a 1970 Cutlass. I raced that too.
No permission, I just did it. Against the expressed denial of my parents.

The only way to be treated as an adult is to act like one. So next time don't yell, scream, and throw a fit. Kids do that. That alone will make them listen since it'll probably surprise them. After they've started listening you can present a logical argument in favor of what you want.
In the end you probably won't get to do everything you want, but hey...you're only 15. We all lived through it and so will you.

They are too often proud of my achievements at school and have always viewed me as the most mature in the family. Yeah that's a bit of high statement by me, but I get to say this as it's true mostly. Not to mention being the first born child on my dad's family side so I often was the big show.
They trust me very well. However my mom is a typical Marie Barone mom, she worries all the time about me, she calls from work to tell us how to eat the food she cooked, or to make sure we cleaned the house or have made our beds, etc.
Nonetheless, while she worries sometimes, never do they prohibit it. Once my dad got extremely angry at me for buying tickets to the Avril show, and asked me over the phone (he works and lives in Montreal and comes here in the weekends) to go online and cancel them. I said no. The weekend went well, he got over his anger, and when the concert came, he gladly did everything and even bought us fast food and made sure our 3-4 hour wait outside in line went well.
I may have occasionally strict parents, however I am free in the majority of the time and they trust me a lot. They let me buy what I want EVEN when they disapprove too much. They always say stuff like "that's way too expensive, damn". They encourage me to work contrary to you, because of our monetary state being 10 times worse than yours. So they like it when we can pay for our goods.
So, in a not so nutshell, I summed up for you how my parents treat me. I don't feel at all the need to rebel.
| Quote : Do you spend most of your time on the comp so they don't worry or are they constantly annoying you cause you forgot to call?

What do you mean?
Yes if someone called and they weren't here, I often forget and they get angry, but they get over it pretty fast!

Yeah that's just one of the things they don't appreciate about his attitude. I still think it's his regular personality/attitude that they don't appreciate. He simply doesn't take a lot seriously wherever he is, and I believe this is why. I could be wrong though, I don't live with him.

I'm not going to bother judging his personality. I was a lunatic at his age and am in no position to say anything.
However, parents will not treat their children like adults until they demonstrate that they are one. Flamey needs to consistantly show that he is close enough to an adult for them to treat him as one. A young adult in his case. Throwing fits and disobeying their wishes is not a good idea with parents. That's why he's being treated as a kid. At least that's what I think.

I think we are getting to the heart of the matter. Yesterday after some animated discussing, it became even more animated over my quantum computing project. What happened is over the year I completed a big thing with a algorithm, and now my mentor wants me to estimate some constants but I think it's really bullsh!t work cause it doesn't matter much at all. Anyway, my dad and I debated over this, and we established that I will continue with quantum since I am so far ahead into it already (this is for Intel science talent search btw) and we shall look around for a few variations on phase estimation rather than the constant estimation, though I may still do it just as a bs activity. Anyway, I have to go sign up for my permit now sometime and today when I sprinted down to the train cause I was late, and explained that I had noticed a bump on my face and needed to take care of it, my dad said fine. Hoping things chill down. Now we shall see about the weight bench......

Well, I've actually been in several. My first was a speaker presentation (powerpoint) at a JSHS (Junior Science and Humanities Symposium *I think is what it stands for*) at Suny or Pace University (get em mixed up) in Westchester NY. (Awaits for someone to scream out You were that quantum guy!!!). I placed so I could go onto the state competition. Now, a little bit after that I went to the Intel ISEF Competition (again at either Suny or Pace) where I won the Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award. I then went to Upstate JSHS (had people from Connecticut and close states in it too tho) where I won 1st place in the poster competition. Newspapers, I have been listed in local ones (I forget their names....something Inquirer is one of em I beleive), and got listed there once for setting the school JV shotput record and getting first place. Sorry if it sounded like bragging, I'm just telling what happened (and hold these prizes dearly). In 12th grade I'm going to submit to the Intel Talent Search, previously known as the Westinghouse Competition, and I pray that my work has paid off.

None of these have any database records on the contest pages for the contest websites?
Is there ANYTHING about you possibly found or "recognized" for your achievements that can be found in a more global database? I'd assume something like Intel's contests would be somewhere listing winners. Just wanting some credibility proof of recognition.
That might sound like me asking "PROVE IT", but it's more or less that.
