I want this software to work and protect me while on the Internet, but I also want to be able to connect to the other computers on my LAN... when it says add the IP address of the computers you want to be able to connect to your computer, I am concernd that everyone and his brother are using 192.168.0.X, and so that does not seem like a safe thing to do...

Is there a way to ensure that only the computer on my network with a specified IP address can connect to my computer...

But I sure miss not being able to acess files from my other harddrives whenever I want to...

One of the main reasons I access my network is to keep games patched and the mod files in the right folders on all the computers... but this Symantec is complicating the whole LAN gaming thing as well...

You can use a different range of IPs if you like, eg 10.0.0.x or something more random and specify the minimum range of IPs on your LAN eg use 10.0.0.1 10.0.0.2 10.0.0.3 not 10.0.0.9 10.0.0.100 ect. I;ve never had a problem with hackers and i use 192.168.1.x for my lan.
