To install a PCI sound card in a system with on-board sound I realize I need
to disable the audio in the BIOS but is it necessary to make any changes in
Device Manager? When I expand the Sound, Video and Game controllers entry
it shows 7 items, one of which is Creative AudioPCI and I assume it needs to
be uninstalled. But the others?

First, disable the audio via the motherboard BIOS. Next, boot the system in
safe mode (F8 key), and delete all references to any audio, all of which are
related to the on-board Creative chip. Then, power down, install new card, and
be ready with the drivers for it... Ben Myers

Thanks, Ben
Sorry, I failed to mention that I'm using WinXP.
