1. THe logical one wud be to get a new 9600 Pro. Thats how much money I have now.
2. But i cud get a new nforce2 mobo and 512 MB RAM and get a KVM box for the same amout. That may seem illogical. So i am stuck with what decision to take.
My comp - A7V8X with 1700+ @ 2600+ speeds, GF4 MX440 64MB 4X, 2 sticks of 256 MB DDR333.
I have a spare 1800+ (tbred A that i cud run at most at 2300+ speeds.), a 40GB 5.4krpm drive and a RivaTNT2 32MB card. I am not that avid a gamer.
If i get the 9600Pro, i wud have a decent config with which i cud play even the latest games at reasonable display settings.
But if i go for the 2nd choice, i cud have 2 systems runnning which is gr8 coz i have a TV-Tuner card and record all the programs i need on the other system without slowing down the main system that i wud be working on.
With the first choice, my system wud look something like this:
A7V8X (KT400)
1700+ @ 2085MHz (2600+ speeds)
2*256MB(=512MB) DDR333 CL2.5-3-3-7
Radeon 9600 PRO
80GB Hitachi 7.2k RPM 2MB cache
40GB Seagate 5.4k RPM 2MB cache
SB Live! DE5.1
Generic 500W (420W True Power) PSU
17" Samsung SyncMaster 750ST
MS Optical Wheel Mouse
Samsung Multimedia Keyboard
Pinnacle PCTV Plus TV-Tuner Card
Sony 40X CD-RW
Sony 16X DVD-ROM.
and a 250W generic PSU, 1800+ t-bred A, GF4MX440, one old KT133mobo with 256MBSD-RAM and a RivaTNT2 32Mb card lying idle.
If i go for the choice No.2, my 2 systems wud be:
System 1:
A7N8X Dlx or MSI K7N2 ILSR
1700+ at 2200MHz (2800+ speeds; cant run at this speed on my A7V8X now because i cant run at more than 166FSB with 2 sticks even though my CPU is capable of running.)
2*256MB DDR333 CL2.5-3-3-7
GF4 MX440
80GB IBM 7200 RPM
Creative SB Live DE5.1
Sony 40X CD-RW
Sony 16X DVD-ROM.
Generic 500W (420W True Power) PSU
System 2:
A7V8X
1800+ at 1860MHz
1*512MB DDR400 CL2.5-3-3-7
RivaTNT2 32MB
40GB Seagate 5400 RPM
250W Generic Power Supply (I might get a 400W as it is cheap)
Pinnacle PCTV Plus TV-Tuner Card
with the 17"" monitor, keyboard and the mouse being common to both thru a KVM switch.
I'd go with the video card upgrade. Rather than have 2 machines, have one machine that runs real fast. Saphirre's R9600 Pro is v.overclockable, and would seemingly run well in your rig.

Tnx Rob....i was inclined to get the Radeon 9600 Pro too. But not the sapphire one. i am planning to get a S-Media (i guess u have never heard of it) 9600 Pro. Its very cheap. costs about the same as the ASUS Ti4200 card.
This card is a no frills card. Just comes with a drvier CD, no games. thats OK, as long as it costs less.

No, not really, some get very very long, in terms of length. Scan back and check out "Virtual Fight Club". Now that ran forever.

I see.
I had no idea it was a brand name. It's not available in Canada.
You're right about shipping to India. It would be expensive and then you have the ring around with the package clearing customs. It's bad enought just to mail a package to the USA. It's getting so bad I'm surprised they don't ask for DNA samples at the post office.

hahaha...u know what? one of my friend's friend got a set of Bose speakers shipped from USA. It cost about 700$ for the speakers and about the same for shipping and customs...
About the S-Media card...its a new company. Like i said its damn cheap. their 9600 Pro costs about US$350 (when converted from the Indian Rupee). Thats how much the ASUS Ti4200 costs here!! But i dont get any games or software with the S-Media card...
Videocard or a really good hooker. Either way you're a winner.

Your friend got a some bose shipped from US??? Is he mad? Bose has two shops, On in US, The other in CP, New Delhi India
And yea S-media are crap really. I coaxed my friend into buying one because it was cheap, First of all the performance would never be close to what you r expecting. The Custcare sux ass big time. WE had some trouble getting replacements.... and yea their 9700 was 4 pixel pipelined....I guess it's warning enough for you. and Search around more, Asus ti 4200 is now available for only 10,000Rs
tnx pal.. i dont want a Ti4200 now...coz i wanna get a DX9 card so that i need not upgrade for atleast 18 months...i'll look out for Hercules cards then.
