My spouse tried to run Dreamweaver on this machine after her laptop (win
xp) crumped. We meet or exceed the requirements for the program...the
only borderline one is RAM. Program suggests 256 MB and that's what we
have. The system resources go down to 10-12% as soon as the program
launches and the program eventually freezes. Is this strictly a Win98
issue or will bumping RAM to 512 MB help? I couldn't remember at what
level of RAM Win 9x starts having to use resources just to keep track of
it all. I hate to upgrade to XP as the FAX software that came with the
machine works great and I really don't want to spend the time or money
learning a new one just to get to Win XP (and some older hardware
doesn't come with XP drivers). Open to suggestions, even if it's just to
get XP. THanks for any advice.

512MB is effectively the max supported by Win 98SE. Go for it. Had a client
who used DreamWeaver on a Dell running 98SE. Upgraded the memory to 512MB and
all was well... Ben Myers

It won't help. At 256 MBytes, the system resources are at their max and
won't increase - in fact, may actually decrease slightly) with added memory.
More memory means more of the small resource blocks are needed to keep
track. System resources that low suggest you've got a problem.

The way to increase system resources is to decrease the number of programs
in memory (loading at startup).

Also do a full antivirus and spyware scan - and update WIndows.
