OK, a very odd thing happened. I changed the IDE cable on my Lite-ON
DVD-R. As soon as I did, their PowerDVD software refused to play any
DVD or audio CDs - I got a "copy protection error". Windows Media
Player ran them fine, but I had to physically launch WMP and run the
tracks - no autoprompt. I tried the obvious fixes to no avail, so I
went back to the old cable (I suspected a bad cable and was changing
it as a precaution. Now, PowerDVD will play the DVDs and CDs - but it
won't auto-launch them, I still need to open the software and manually
play the disks. I don't even get an autostart with data CD-ROMs - I
have to go to "My Computer" and do it manually.
Can anyone offer a suggestion? PowerDVD is definitely set to prompt
upon disk insertion, so that's not the issue. I'm at my wits' end -
how did changing the cable cause this bizarre result?
