I've always liked Netgear products but when I went to order several yesterday I discovered (by calling Netgear) that they've upgraded the latest models with auto-uplink technology (eliminating the uplink button) without
modifying the model number. So there appears to be no practical way to be sure you are ordering ones with autosensing feature. I guess they can be sure of getting rid of the older ones with the button that way but it causes
me to want to buy elsewhere.

Can anyone recommend a brand of up to date and durable network switches available at reasonable prices in the 5 port and 8 port variety for use in an office environment? Unmanaged, Desktop, lights, 10/100, autosensing, rear ports and metal case preferred but not required.

I have a Gigafast that's been working just fine for me. It's in my favorite color, blue, and the 5-port is the size of your palm. It auto-detects uplink, has lights, and is a sturdy metal. And, it's not too expensive (try Newegg.com ). The only thing that I don't like about it is the power adapter...it's quite big.
