PRODUCT KEY NOT WORKING

Hello,
I just purchased and installed my product key for my already installed software. But when I logged into Word I got the product key box asking me to provide the key. I had already done that. Then when I plugged in the very product key that I was given when I gave the pin # it indicated that the product key was incorrect or invalid. What?? Do I have to reboot or what? Help appreciated. Thanks.
