....if you already own the PS2 version.
Hello GTA fans. I've been playing San Andreas on the PS2 since the UK
launch. I bought the PC version this weekend and I thought I'd try and
convince anyone in the same position to buy the PC version.
Basically it's a completely new game. The graphics are so crisp and now
you can actually see the city in all its glory! Standing on the roof of
CJ's house in Ganton, you can see the Vinewood hills, you can see all
the cranes in the docks, you can see it all clearly.
There is a knuckle duster under the bridge in the Grove. I never
noticed it on my 14" TV!
I still get a slight problem with pop up when travelling quickly at low
levels, but it's still much improved.
Also being able to define user tracks for the radio stations is
hilarious. Last night I was playing the first Los Santos missions with
a combination of Sting, Chopin, Aha, Faithless, Bach and God know's
what else playing.
I'm lucky to have a good video card (6800GT) so I can run at max detail
and draw distance and max AA at 1280x1024 but even at lower settings
it's great.
Don't think about it, donate your £40 or $60 to Rockstar.

It would cost me probably £100 to get my kit upto spec and to buy the
game. I may just go for the xbox version instead

Rockstar never has, and i doubt ever will, make a great control scheme
(Battlefield 1942, etc) that will allow you to hotplug a joystick or
controller, and configure it for flight only.
Years ago, a friend was going to toss out one of those goofy split keyboard
'natural' keyboards. The thing that caught my eye was the arrow keys in
their own pack between the numberpad and main keyboard. Above them is a
sixpack of keys (del,PgUp,Home, etc).
What little time i have for FPS style gaming these days is very user
friendly with this butt-ugly keyboard.
I've had no problems with mouse driving ( i can also use the arrow keys),
or flying using the keyboard with planes or helicopters in III and VC. (I
bet thats going to change a bit after i try my first dogfight)
My only complaint so far, is when you stop walking, the mouse stops
controlling CJ, and moves the camera. Really irritating when you just want
to spin around and whack someone, and cant. The new targeting feature doesnt
bother me, but that sure does...

That keyboard layout sounds like a standard one. The one I'm typing on now
isn't one of those split ones, but it has the arrow keys and the
Insert/home/pageup/pagedown/delete/end keys in the configuration you
described.

I find this tough as well - fist fights are quite hard to manage in SA,
especially if there are other people around. I normally end up whacking
some innocent ped who then joins in against me, death being then not
too far away.....
