Does anyone know the answer to this. If i wanted to put a new graphics
card that was labeled as AGP 4x or 8x would it work in an older AGP
slot that was slower if? so what would happen to the motherboard or
video card what it do any damage?

Thanks in advance

Probably it is downwards compatible, but to be sure check it out via
the internet. Use a search engine to find information on the
technology behind AGP if you please.

It depends on WHICH specific older motherboard it is.

If it is AGP4x/8x _only_ then it doesn't support any voltage that an AGP
2x-only slot can provide. You could damage either the board or the
motherboard if it fits into the slot at all.
