Just hoping someone knows the answer to this question. I'm on a VZW
Family Plan with three lines. What would happen to the two other lines
if I port the "primary" line on the account over to Cingular? (Prefer
Verizon, but on my primary line I need the better international voice
and data roaming that Cingular offers). I'd like to leave the other two
lines active with Verizon (since they never leave the US), but I'm not
sure what will happen if the primary line they're attached to is no
longer with Verizon. My wife will kill me if I somehow lose her
current cellular number if the account suddenly gets closed.

More about : port primary line verizon

Just call verizon. Make your Wife's number the primary line. Then
port your number.
For example, my Wife and I had 2g phones. My number was primary. When
I added a 3g phone for my daughter, it had to be the primary number.
When I switched my 2g for a 3g, I had my carrier switch the primary
status to my number again.

Jerome has it right. If you port the line and do NOT do as he says, the two
share lines will be "orphaned" and charged overage rates. Since without the
main, they have "zero" minutes to draw from, everything will be overage. It
would be interesting to see if the nights/weekends/in-network would get
charged? But yes, make the primary change to one of other lines. BUT be
careful: if this causes an overall plan change, it may reset your contract.
Better to call CS, tell em what you are trying to do, make sure the line
does NOT get a contract extension, and there you go. dr

This is nonsense. The secondary lines don't have a
plan without a primary line. You *have* to do something
with the secondary lines if you port the primary.

In this case they would ask you which secondary line
you would like to be the primary. The other option would
be to move the secondary lines to individual plan. It's
NOT going to happen that you are left with "secondary"
lines with no minutes... I thought you had something
to do with selling plans some time ago?
