XP multple video adapters for laptop?

It seems none of the major laptop manufacturers support having multiple
video adapters as normally supported by Windows XP on a desktop. Why is
this?

Because additional video chips would shorten the battery life and there is
practically no demand for laptops that can display on more than the onboard
display, a projector, and a TV?
