I have been having a major problem regarding login to "My Account". I've
been calling and emailing VZW Web Services about this for over a month now.
They appear to be clueless. Apparently someone/something is trying to log
into my account to the tune of 2-10 attempts a day (rough estimate based on
previous responses by reps). I noticed this only because I have been having
to change my pin everytime I log into the account over the last 7+ months -
only recently was it enough of a nuisance for me to call and find out why.
I never knew this could be the problem.

The steps I have taken include:
changing my username twice
changing my pin from the auto-issued one to another that I chose
*adding a password onto the account
calling web services at least 15 times in the last month
asking about this at 611 just in case someone can help
asking about changing my account NUMBER since the login is probably
using that (but they tell me it's like opening a new account - not sure this
is a workable option)
emailing web services since no one ever called me back from web serv. as
promised
probably something else that I've forgotten...

When I called again yesterday (because my bill is due today and I will have
to change the fing PIN again to get into My Account) the rep seemed baffled
by all the trouble (they call them remedy) tickets. I only knew of two or
three but apparently there were many more.

Please, does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?? What
other steps should I take to get this resolved? I really don't know who
might be trying to log into my account. I have never thrown out a bill, so
the account number shouldn't be out there. Furthermore no changes have been
made that I can tell, and I just successfully upgraded my plan and phone on
July 4... no weird phone/data charges or anything like that (no cloning).
There's a number for Fraud but I guess I don't fall under that category
(yet?) because I gave them a call, told them what was going on, and they
sent me to web serv. I wish the calls to web serv didn't cost me minutes.

Ok. All you VZW-heads, help me on this!

*I STRONGLY urge everyone to add a password onto your account if you haven't
already. Just call 611. This supercedes soc#. If someone has your name,
mobile # and soc, they can make changes to your account.

Have them enter a fake last 4 for your social and enter your correct social
in the account notes....I have seen this done when someone 'knows' someone
elses last 4. As for the account password....I am an independant agent and
we find them a pain in the #%&. No one seems to remember them....and I
don't know if true yet, but I hear if you have password you cannot do
on-line ESN change....I do this all the time to test phones out.

I've never heard of this before...

So I take it that the web page will lock down web access to the
account after some number of consecutive unsuccessful attempts
to login? At least that sounds like a good idea...

I'm trying to think what would be of value there... can't remember
what personal information is in there. SS#? CC?
Can you upgrade equipment and have it sent to some
other address? Anything of value in there and it could
be automated attempts. Of course you would expect it
to be a well known problem then.

Anybody else in your household that might be trying to see your
call logs? suspicious significant other?

I wonder how they generate account numbers? Even if
it was a number close or easily transposed it seems odd
that they would be trying to log in to their account that
often.

I'm back to someone in your house.

Only other person in my house is a roommate who's so clueless on so many
fronts that it would be ridiculous to think she'd do something like that.
It's not her. And I don't have a significant other.

Yeah.

Well, I don't think my cat is doing it.

Somehow I think it's automated attempts, but I have nothing more than a
feeling about it. I had asked at one point if there was a known security
issue with that sort of thing but they said not.

Redhead comes into a doctor's office. Doctor sees her and she says,
"Everyplace I touch my body, I just go screaming in pain! Can you help
me?" Doctor looks her over and figures out what's wrong.

"You're not really a redhead, are you?", he asks. Finally relenting, she
says, "No, I'm a blonde."

"That explains it.", the doctor says, shaking his head. "You have a broken
finger!"
