I'm trying to find a way to get custom MP3 ringtones into my Verizon
Motorola V265. Anybody else find a way to get custom MP3s into the
phone? Most of what I have are WAV and AVI files that I've converted to
MP3s on my PC and I just want to drag and drop 'em to the phone via the
USB cable. They are not available for download *anywhere*.

I tried the USB cable way via the Verizon "Mobile Office Kit" and that
doesn't work. According to:

So, basically, they're eager to tell me it can't be done, and "We never
stop working for you!" What a crock of....

Now, I can't even return the damned $42.39 kit because it's outside the
15 day return period.

I put midi files on my phone by setting up an account at www.vzwpix.com.

Uploading the midi file to my account and sending it to my phone, the same
v265 you have.

I then saved the file as a ringtone on the phone.

I don't know how mush this is costing me for the msg I sent to my phone. It
involved some data transfer.

According to what I read on this forum you can't do it through the cable.

On your phone, go to: Phone Info - Other Information - S/W Version
I don't think the version should matter. My phone is at 26x_1.0.16.17P and
it worked fine.

Why is quoting another message in its entirety when not relevant to the
response a bad thing? ;-)

Actually, it was a mistake. I didn't intend to quote anything at all since
it wasn't required in order to understand my message but it was late at
night and I didn't even notice the quoted text at the bottom. Can I get off
with a verbal warning mister "newsgroup nazi"?

Yes, but be aware quotung the prior message can be very helpful because many
ISPs miss some messages or folks come late to the thread and do not lnow the
history. Ctrl End will get most folks to the end of a message without
scrolling.

All I get is a message on the phone saying I have a PIX or FLIX message,
and to see visit www.vzwpix.com from any internet accessible computer
and follow the instructions. That's all there is on the phone, no
attachments.

....and if I Create Message on vzwpix.com and send it to my phone number,
I get a duplicate of the first message on the phone, just text, no
attachments.

This way will be the last resort, since I'm risk averse w.r.t. this
phone right now. I need to have it working at *all* times (I'm on-call,
for work.).

Are there any other Verizon phones that are easier and more
straightforward to getting custom ringtones into 'em?

According to the Verizon reps. (who asked the guru in the back) at the
Verizon Store I just visited, that can't be done with the V265. Only
the Text comes down to a V265.

That's the behavior my V265 has exhibited.

Now, they say, if I'd gotten the Flix phone, the next Motorola above
the V265, they say the sounds would come down with a Flix, but not a
Pix. <rolleyes>

I may *have* to try the hack & USB cable method.
