Does anyone know if gateway sells new motherboards or if there's an
evergreen chip for a performance 1300?
Thanks,
Mike

The P3 processor line only goes to 1.4 GHz, so you have little room for
upgrade.

By the time you replace everything you'd need to go to a P4, you may as well
buy a new system - it's just not worth upgrading a P3 to a P4.

I don't think Gateway ever sold a P3 1.3Ghz (at least with the Performance
model name), his machine most likely is a socket 423 P4. Still not much room
to upgrade, old socket and RDRAM.

Powerleap has a socket 423 to 478 adapter right on their front page. It will
get you 2.6Ghz for $220 or 2.8Ghz for $250. If your machine has only 128Mb
of ram, you should add at least 512 if you are using Windows XP.

Should cost at least as much as a new system. Balance that against the pain,
time, and labor to move all your important software and personal data to a new
system... Ben Myers
