Overclocking my mx440

Hi I'm still fairly new to these forums so please go easy on me,

I currently have a 64MB Geforce 4 MX440 running in my system, and i
have some software that will allow me to change its Clock frequency
and memory frequency of some sort...

Can someone please tell me if it is safe to just amp up both of the
settings without worry, or is there specific settings I need to
know?

Also how much of a difference will it make?

My personal preference is to use the drivers from www.nvidia.com, and a
registry patch called Forceware Coolbits:

that unlocks a number of settings that are built-in to the standard drivers.
One of the features automatically sets the core and memory frequencies,
although I found that the settings were a little too optimistic: my card, a
6800GT AGP: it would lock up after heavy use in 3D games.

Overclocking the card may void its warranty. I suppose that it is smart to
question the wisdom of risking damage to a piece of hardware that cost
several hundred dollars.

On the other hand, I haven't had a graphics card fail since an old TNT2
card. (That failure may have been caused by overclocking, I admit. The
graphics memory failed.)

Newer nVidia cards have built-in thermal protection, so I expect that the
likelihood of causing a hardware failure due to overclocking is slight.
Whether that extends to an MX440, I have no idea.
