First, and foremost, mount a chute.

Second, jump.

Third, press the "fire" button (LMB)

Lastly, you can control the direction of descent using the the
direction keys.

It really it that simple.

You have to jump a fa distance from the mountian if i remember right
(as in jump off a ramp on a bike then bail the bike) I never found a
place where the drop was far enough for cj to get into a parachuting
position before smacking the side of the mountain
