problem with display driver

Hello.
When I try to use a screensaver in desktop overlay mode I encounter a
peculiar problem.
I use Drempels and this screensaver is capable of running in two modes.
Desktop overlay mode and screensaver mode. Both modes used to work fine
on my computer, but suddenly, the desktop overlay mode stopped working
and I'm puzzled what might be causing this and how to resolve the
issue.

When I try to run Drempels in desktop overlay mode, it says: "failed to
create overlay (no fourcc codes worked)".
However, I'm sure it must be possible since it had been working fine in
the past and I didn't replace the monitor or graphics controller (SONY
CPD-E500/E500E on a Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller). I didn't
change the display settings either (still 2048x1536 at 32 bits).
I don't think I changed anything in the Bios, but I think the problem
started when I tried to use a video player (BSplayer pro) in desktop
mode.

Does anyone know what can be done about this problem so Drempels is
able to run in desktop overlay mode again?
