asus geforce fx5600 and a7n8x-x

Hello,

A friend of mine has got a brand new motherboard :
Asus A7n8x-x
He plugged his previous video card :
an asus geforce fx 5600 with 128 mb ram and agp8x.

His video card and his monitor worked well together with another
motherboard from asus with a simple nforce chipset.

Now he has a very disturbing problem :
He cannot install any drivers for his videocard, neither the ones provided
on the asus cdrom packaged with the videocard or the ones downloaded at
nvidia.com. When he installs such driver, and reboot or change the
resolution, his monitor become black, shutdown and then the system reboots !
The system is Windows XP.

We also tried Linux, and when we use the driver from nvidia.com for
accelerated graphics Xwindows hangs and freeze the computer at the very
begining.

Any-one knows an explanation or better, a workaround for this problem ?
