I got to make a choise from a ati 9800pro vs a fx5900xt and i would
love to know four thing.

1. Witch one of these two card performe better.
ps: i know that it a little bit strange to ask in here.

2. i got a psu 300watt supposedly a hidh quality one. And i would love
to know if it gone a handle these card?

3. i dont know if i got the extra connector to power up these card to
those it come with the video card or not.

4. Or those the motherboard has that particular connector to power up
the videocard, i got an asus a7n8x-x rev2 nf2

plus i got a xp2600 333
2 hard drive and 2 cd-rom.

no add on card (pci)

nvidia is better in OpenGL, so if your games are mainly in OpenGL..go
FX... The 5900xt by the way is SLOWER as the 5900 Non Ultra... let
that be known

If the games you do require allot of shaders or are mainly in
Directx... then go ati.

About your PSU... well some people have it working fine..some have
problems. You just can't predict if it will happen!

I self badly was one of the ones to get problems..and had to replace
my psu with a more powerfull one..

Ah..the choice is yours... a nice FX5900 Ultra or an 9800 Pro ... both
good cards in their own rights. Both have good stabile drivers... both
are fine in gaming. Just like Intel versus AMD... it are just two
different cards.

I agree in some respects, but NVIDIA's AA/AF compared to ATi's is a night
and day difference.

R9800 Pro

It should... But I can't give you 100 % guranatee.

It comes with cards.

Both of cards will be working fine with your Mobo.

:-( It is possible that you will have to change your PSU on something a
little bit higher than 350 Watts.

R9800 Pro vs FX5900 XT:

R9800 Pro is a clear winner here. R9800 Pro is a FX5900 Ultra class card and
in some cases it can be comparable to FX5950 Ultras. With FSAA and AF turned
on R9800 Pro easly beats FX5950 Ultra. The choose is simple:

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

Having just sold a 9600pro and buying a nvidia (5900xt) I feel
compelled to chime in here :

The ATI powered cards are today as they always have been - junk. While
they may crank out the frames, they are FULL of headaches, problems,
glitches, horrendous drivers, incompatiblity issues and terrible
desktop performance. They are without a doubt, the worst product ever
marketed so successfully (besides a Mac, that is).

I would rather reinstall my matrox g400 and SLI'd voodoo2's then ever
use another ATI product. They are that bad.

I'm glad you said that - I made the mistake of buying an ATI card again
a while ago and have ditched it for good 'ol nVidia, the drivers are a
pain - install drivers - reboot - install control panel reboot - problem
resolution - uninstall control panel and install vXXX.YY as this works
best with that driver version......Oh! - You are using what version of
ATI Media Centre? - In that case try uninstalling the driver only then
reboot - then install........Ok. Now you have to run the ATI uninstall
utility to get rid of all the registry settings and start again with X
version of the Contro, panel, Y version of the driver and W version of
the Media Centre - OK now try the Omega drivers - they work better for
me than the Catalyst ones.

What a bloody nightmare!!! Now install Forceware single file and thats it!

I've been using 9800P for almost a year now and I'm not happy with their
drivers at all.

True... nvidia definitly takes a deeper plumb... and remember that
nvidia only does 4x AA and 8x AF ... ati does 6x AA and 16x AF!

Exactly! ATI is a nightmare.... they always have been, and from the
looks of things, they always will be. Horrible (they define horrible!)
drivers, and hardware that has compatiblity issues with the most
mainstream and common motherboards, chipsets and processors. They cant
even make a decent laptop chipset! If you dont believe me, do some
research on the Compaq Presario problems - the screens on them appear
ot be 'melting' because of faulty (a synonym for ATI) video chips!

ATI = headache, low performance, never stop messing with your setup

Nvidia = load and forget it's there, just play your games and enjoy!

ATi used to be pretty bad, but so was nVidia...

I remember for uninstall of the Det's, delete the nvidia folder, go to
c:\windows\inf (or c:\winnt\inf) and dig out the INF file) and cross your
fingers that nVidia's installer would do the right thing (one of the side
benefits of nVidia buying out 3dfx, they must have used the same engineers
for the driver installer, after 3dfx went away, the Det installer was much,
much better)

Both are good choices now, much depends on what you do with the machine... I
tend to run my games 1024*768 with no AA, and I'm not the ubergamer that
some are...

My boxen...

P4-2.8C on i865, 9500Pro (Intel D865PERL)
P4-2.4 on i845, ti4200 (Intel D845PEBT2)
AXP2500+ on NForce2, 9600Pro (Abit NF7-S 2.0)
AXP2200+ on NForce2, 5600 Ultra (Shuttle AN35 Ultra)

Every one of them is fairly quick, each box above exceeds 10K on
3dMark2001se, and the DX9 cards are respectable at 3dMark2003 - games I play
are UT2K4, EASports F1-2002, still break out Q3-Arena once in a while, and
lately my son and I have been playing Lucasart's KOTR.

The P4-2.4 is my LAN server, and the ti4200 was an upgrade victim, seeing
that the P4 server was available, tossed the GF2MX that was in it ;^)

The uninstall process on ATi is a bit more complex than nVidia - uninstall
the control panel, don't reboot, and then uninstall the driver, reboot, and
install the new CAT's, a couple of more steps than the Forceware drivers
(for Video). The ATi drivers do have a single install option these days, if
you download the big package, but on broadband, it takes only a few seconds
more...

From a GPU perspective, I'm happy with both... knowing the configs above,
with the exception of the 9500Pro, the performance levels in most games,
along with compatibility, you probably wouldn't know the difference... the
9500Pro on the P4-2.8C is a grade above the others, granted, but even then,
it's not _that_ noticable except in extreme cases...

I've had more problems with the NForce drivers on the Shuttle and Abit
boards than I have with either the ATi or nVidia video drivers...

In the end, I look for what is the best bang for the buck when I'm in the
market for vid cards... I know with nVidia or ATi, I'm getting a fair
deal... didn't use to be that way.

more than likely, it was operator error. neither card has a distinct
advantage over the other in terms of stability, ease of use,
headaches, and (currently frame rates). they both have pros and cons
is what i'm tryin to say...
