Serves him right. He's no great loss to the world, and at least he's gone before he inevitably killed someone else.

What the heck is a Ford Ikon?

Yeah, serves him right. It's no wonder I am so opposed to 16-year old driver license obtainment.

ford sells their cars under diffrent names in foregn countries...they also sell diffrent models in some countries...

I have never seen a car in half like that...it is sad...but true...i still think that 16 is a good age for driving...parents have to relise though...that if they do not think their child can handle the responsibility...they should not teach them to drive...

knowing quite a few 16 year olds, i disagree

even in peaceful eastern canada (no big cities at all, cept Halifax) kids drive too crazy. i cant imagine what kids from like new york or any large city would be like...

16 is just too young and irresponsible.

No joke...of course there is the occasiounal [-peep-] with the civic and the fartcan who thinks he can take over the world and ends up getting stoned and drunk and wraped around a tree...but most CAN handle it...

I don't think I've ever met a 16 year old who could drive. They might get lucky and not get in an accident if they're "carefull", but most people shouldn't be driving until they're at least 18.

There was this girl in my high school who went out and got her license on her 16th birthday. By lunch she had run a red light and got into an accident totalling the car. Her parents bought her another new car and within a few days she had totalled that one as well. She totalled the 3rd one as well soon after that and I think she stopped driving or had her license taken away for a year at that point.

The worst part about the whole story?

She goes to get her license and fails the first time for running a red light or a stop sign (can't remember all the details exactly). I think she passed the second time but I can't be sure. Either way she cut it close.

I passed within 4 points and totalled my car within a year and a half. I lost a good friend in an accident. I must have been in half a dozen accidents before I was 21 between me and being a passenger in friend's cars.

Besides making out and getting some nice BJ's from girls in my car in high school....I really should have waited to get my license.

Me too...I can't say that I was a responsible teenager...I don't know if I've ever met one. That's a time in your life when you are constantly pushing the envelope and testing limits. I totaled my car with a year of having it. My brother totaled his. My best friend totalled his. We had a lot of fun though...I just thank God that nobody ever got hurt.

Get your own sig!!!

I waited till I was 18 to get my license. When I was 16, I realized I was not up to the responsibility. I was mature enough, but not responsible enough. Actually, it was about half way through my 18th year that I got my license. I've seen a lot of 16 year olds that are way to immature to be driving. I personally think the limit should be upped to 18.

By the way Phial, where in eastern Canada do you live? I live in the "hub of Nova Scotia".

Damn, man, sounds like you've been friends with a bunch of bad drivers. The only accident I've been in is a real minor one where some idiot ghetto ricer tapped me on the rear bumper after I warned him he was following me too close. Trying to think of any actual friends that've gotten a DUI, but can't recall any right now.

There were some dumbasses in my high school that got into more than enough wrecks, and several killed, but most of my friends have pretty clean records. A speeding ticket here and there, but that's about it.

I don't know anyone from Tatamaghouche, but I go up there every year for the Tim Hortons Open House camp day.......Ahhhhhh, Tim Bits Galore.

For those of you who don't know, Tim Hortons is "Eastren Canada's" donut store, and at this camp they give away free donuts (well, mini ones), but still, it's all you can eat :)

Reply to sargeduck

Which college are you planing on going too?
I'm currently going to the N.S.A.C., but I'm planning on going either to Dal or St.Fx next year.

Reply to sargeduck

We lived it up. What more can I say? As for the DUI's....they're stupid. If I even have one beer I don't drive. Not worth it to me. Two of my friends put a couple years into college doing criminal justice. One wanted to do highway patrol, another FBI. Both got a DUI. One got a wet and reckless as well. One dropped out of college, the other had to change his major. I had an aquantance as well who dropped out of college after getting his DUI since he wanted to do the FBI or Highway Patrol.

Accidents seem to be a dime a dozen here. In San Diego the second water hits the road everyone crashes. So a navy guy slammed into my car at a red light. Another couple with 3 of their kids in the backseat didn't yield at a left hand green light and I nearly killed them all. Luckily I only nicked their back end after a very snazy manuever on my part. Two people have hit my car in a parking lot. I was in my friends car when he just decided to slam on the gas coming out of a gas station. Boom he hit the back end of a car. I was driving out of the school parking lot as a senior and wasn't paying attention when I slammed into the back of a car. Plus I had that bad accident where I flipped, rolled, and basically blew up my car as well as a power line.

We once got into a bumper car chase with this crazy lady. Yes, we used real cars to play bumper cars. Scariest damn thing of my life.

It was great being able to work and drive as a 16 year old, but the measly minimum wage that they pay 16 year olds doesn't justify putting them on the road.

i, too, am against 16 year olds getting their drivers license in this day and age. personally, i thing it would be ok to get it when you are 15, but not in this day and age.

parenting is much too influenced by the surrounding atmosphere of todays teenagers. with proper parenting and a mature child as a result, i think 15 is a good age. not bragging, rather going by experience; as some already know, i just got my first ticket about a week ago and i started driving legally at 15 and a half. i really think it has a great deal to do with parenting and how well the child is raised and matured.

it sucks that all are limited to the nearest lowest standards set by the wrong doers.

Yeah, IMO, 17-18 should be the age. Heck, you guys in the US get the license so fast compared to here. Here it takes 12 months after you succeed the Theory part, or 8 months if you followed driving courses

Remember rice-boy Wilamette_Sucks in the GFX Forum?

Most of them are bent on ricing their cars at that age! DEATH TO RICE!

I hear what you're saying, but they brought him up, so their parenting skills obviously leave a lot to be desired. They probably thought he was an innocent little angel. In reality he was a little twat.

you can drive at 15 here in NZ.

it all comes down to how well your parents have raised you, and how well they have trained you to drive/fit in with society.

i have never had an accident, i drove since i was 15.

both my parents were motorcycle instructors. so they both had fantastic driving skills and teaching skills.

i drive defensivly and without confidence. (e.g. cockyness. i am a confident driver, but i am not a dangerously cocky driver, and don't think i am god)

oh yeah i have personally reached 150Km an hour (in a station wagon LOL), yes stupid idea i know but i needed to test the crap car LOL. but other than that i don't speed more than 5% over the limit max.

and i drive like a granny. (except i check my mirrors etc...)

i have avoided multiple accidents through intelligetn driving and guessing what other drivers will do.

so in think its all due to my parents and the teaching.
(p.s. i worked for a car yard for a while and have driven over 100 cars)

well yea you're right on that. But now generally speaking 16 really isnt the right age IMO. I started riding my bike at 16 much against my parents opinions untill i had my accident , nothing major but i sure as hell jerked my brain back into it's place :). I've started the car now when i turned 18 and i'm a muuuuuuch better driver now.

Someone in this thread mentioned about the 16 year old drivers being lucky in gettin away without an accident. He's right. No one really knows how to drive good but they're just plain lucky that they dont get hurt.
