MSI Live Updates for Graphic Card Drivers

Hi

I have the MSI FX5600, and use the MSI Live Update facility to update my
drivers.
I understand that in order for new drivers to work most efficiently, all
previous entries in the registery should be deleted.
Does anyone know, if the MSI Live Update does this? The latest I've
installed is the 5663 (MSI version)

Thanks

You would be better off getting the latest drivers from the nVidea site as
they are the people who make the drivers and not MSI. I only have one
experience using the MSI Live Update facility and it totally screwed up my
machine so never again.

I agree, I would stick to using Nvidia drivers rather than MSI. Right now
I'm using the 53.03 drivers under Windows Server 2003, with an MSI Ti4200
128 meg 8x card.

I've tried the MSI drivers in the past. They are the only ones to give me
problems, like not installing correctly, and needing to run driver cleanup
utilities. At the very least, switching back to Nvidia drivers, I've had
to re-install the Nvidia drivers a few times in a row, and then go back and
clean up traces of MSI control panels and stuff. The MSI drivers don't
install clean and don't uninstall clean.

As to what benefits there might be from using the MSI drivers, I don't
really think there are enough to justify using them. I don't think
performance is any better. They do offer their own overclocking tools but
they crash all the time on my dual-cpu system. Easier to use someone
else's overlclocking tool than try to get MSI's to work. But I never
bother overclocking anyways, my system is more limited by my CPUs (dual P3-
800) than my video card.

I like MSI hardware, but their driver efforts are questionable. They look
flashy and impressive but at the end of the day are they actually getting
you anything you don't have with the stock vendor drivers?

One popular cleaner mentioned is Driver cleaner.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=3214

I have only had to use a "cleaner" program a few times. Sometimes I get
away with just removing the existing video driver, then re-installing the
Nvidia driver 2 or 3 times until everything finally works.

Try here http://www.guru3d.com/ Detonator RIP is the one I use. I'm not sure
if the other one, Detonator Destroyer, works with the latest driver
versions. Check out their forums as well. There's info there on how to
properly update your drivers.

Cheers.
