My PC does NOT have an AGP slot. I've currently got a PNY GeForce FX
5200PCI 128MB DDR installed which is much better than the on board
graphics. The children use it to play Splinter Cell and love it.

I've read that the ultra version is better. Do the ultra versions
come in PCI slot versions ? More to the point would the following
come in a PCI slot version ?

CREATIVE 3D BLASTER 5 nVIDIA FX5200 ULTRA 128mb

Alternatively are there any other PCI cards out there that give a much
better performance ?

I believe Inno3d makes an FX5600 256MB in PCI. If it's 3d gaming
performance you are after, you need to start rethinking how you are going to
get there. How about a motherboard upgrade?

PCI cards are something of a rarity and tend as a result to be more
expensive and hard to find than a comaprable AGP card. It would be a LOT
easier and better for you to change the mobo first then get whatever
graphics card you can afford.

Not a bad choise for PCI, that is IF you can find one. However, It might be
wiser to invest in a new motherboard (+ ram) before doing a new video
upgrade.

At least the issue of having to get a PCI video card in new PCI-only
motherboards without AGP, which are usually either small form factor
boards or those in brand-name PCs from the vendors like HP/Compaq,
will be mute after PCI-Express supplants AGP and the Older PCI-style
slots. Even standard PCI-Express slots should provide more bandwidth
for video cards even if some future boards are likely to have neither
AGP nor the graphics dedicated PCI-Express 16X.

Will a PCI-Express 16X board run in a non 16X slot?
