I'm trying to find a Dell, Gateway, etc for business use.
Typically, nothing more than Word is going to be used. Nothing that requires a good processor or loads of memmroy. The documents are very important though.
So, I'm trying to find a PC with a cheap processor, minimum memmory, etc. I want a low cost solution. The thing is that I want a RAID solution. SATA is not needed, but RAID (mirroring) is a requirment.
I can not find RAID systems at any of the associated web sites (Dell Gateway, etc). If anyone can find one or describe how to find one, please let me know.
I could build a PC, but it's not for me and I don't want the headaches that are associated with maintaining the PC. If it breaks, I want Dell to have hte headache
Also, no monitor is needed, just the box, keyboard and mouse.
Hi my name is Dell...
How about you buy the Dell and then put an aftermarket Raid card in there? Here is a link to a good one

$79.00 from <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com" target="_new">http://www.newegg.com</A>
I don't want to maintain the PC since it's not for me. Otherwise I'd buyild one. Anyways, I might go the route of by a cheap dell and add the RAID card w/2 small, cheap hard drives.
What about controllers by 3ware? I heard those are very good also.
Well...to be honest I've neve used anything but promise cards...so I can't honestly give you advice about 3ware. I'm sure there is an online retailer that would build you a PC with Raid, but the service is probably not going to be as good as Dell/Gateway.
Buy the cheapest computer you can find. Any $500 or less one will do and then add a RAID card and some drives. For basic word processing you might as well buy a used PC.
You don't need Dell. When you have a problem, go to your local mom and pop PC shop and they'll fix it.

if u r not the one doing the maintenance and the person who owns it doesn't know how to do it, he will be in trouble when he calles Dell for tech support. The moment he says, he has a raid controller, tech support will tell him that they don't support at all and he needs to remove it ( I know that at least 95% of the techs in the facility where I worked have no idea and never heard of RAID).
One more thing is that Dell doesn't have a depot like gateway or Compaq where u can ship a computer and get it fixed and even if he buys onsite support, he needs to open the comp and do t/s for hours and hours over the phone. If he is capable of doing so, it's fine otherwise any tech support is a waste as Dell doesn't send any tech to the customers home except to replace the part.
He can actually save some money by avoiding onsite support as if he is comfortable opening the computer and troubleshoot, he should be able to replace the parts on his own and if he is not even comfortable doing so, he will end up calling u or calling a tech locally and pay him.
Just goto a computer shop. Goto a couple compare prices some places are 40% more !!! Just ask for a custom computer and they should help you out and save a bunch.
