Hi, I am looking for some advice on upgrading. I currently have an
Aopen GeForce 4 MX 440 SE with 64 MB of RAM, and my system is an AMD
Athlon XP 1800 with 512 MB of RAM. This does me fine when I'm playing
Counter-Strike, but I want to play Deus Ex 2 and Half-Life 2. I am
thinking of getting one of the following cards and would like to know
what you think, specifically has anyone had any serious problems with
any of them, and how important is the amount of RAM on the card?
Should I increase my system's RAM?

Sparkle GeForce FX 5700 128MB DVI/TV-Out - Retail (GX-050-SP) - £93.94

Asus V9570TD GeForce FX 5700 128MB VGA (GX-027-AS) - £98.11

XFX GeForce FX 5700 128MB DDR DVI/TV-Out (GX-010-XF) - £99.88

XFX GeForce FX 5700 256MB DDR DVI/TV-Out (GX-011-XF) - £108.69

Sparkle GeForce FX 5700 256MB DVI/TV-Out - Retail (GX-049-SP) -
£109.28

Leadtek Winfast A360TD GeForce FX 5700 128MB DDR (GX-022-LT) - £113.39

Asus V9570TD GeForce FX 5700 256MB (GX-023-AS) - £114.56

You would be better served finding a FX5900SE/XT. It's faster, or get a
FX5700 Ultra.

The price difference is not that great and you would see better frame rates
and performance. So i would suggest getting a 5900SE.

ASRock K7S8X

I'd like to eventually, but the last thing I got was a new mobo + CPU,
so it's the graphics card's turn.

I could stretch to a Sparkle GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128MB for £129.19,
but anything more is just too much cash. Should I save for a 5900?

What about:

Creative GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128MB - £131.60
or
XFX GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128MB - £138.65

OK, you've convinced me! I will take my penny jar to the supermarket
and get the extra £10 that way :)

Any difference between the XFX, Leadtek, MSI or Sparkle versions? All
the prices are about the same.

Go with Leadtek, they always take pride in their products.... and so do
their customers.

They've always been the best at overclocking, except for my MSI
TDX-8888 Geforce 4 440MX-8x, which was able to achieve 490gpu/790ram
with stock cooling =D.

"Deus Ex 2" is poisontoffee to almost any rig, but you'll double or
triple your frame-rates if you use 5700 Ultra or 5900XT. If you want
frame-rates to stay in the 30fps, you will have to switch to 800 x 600
resolution with high details. I'm running a Barton 2600+ and 5900XT
and got roughly 20fps on average with the 1024 x 768 resolution. The
game is as infamous as its predessor at the time of the release, at
least what comes to the performance.
