using custom colour settings problem

hi - i like to use custom colour settings when playing day of defeat.
i tweak the digital vibrance a touch and increase the gamma and save
as "Day of Defeat". when i finish playing i always restore hardware defaults
by using the media center icon in systray. the problem happens at bootup in
the morning - when the desktop comes up its like all the colours are
reversed and in 8bit mode or less!

this is on a geforce4ti 4200 with the 44.03 currently though I have tried
other drivers with same result. OS is W2Kpro + SP4 + DX9b.
