on an hp dj400, when i go to print a doc, the default setting is for color instead of b & w. i have to change it manually every time i print, what a pain. how can i set it to default to b & w? thanks

Change the setting through start/settings/printers/Deskjet 400/properties.
That will switch the defaults. Changing the setting when you print only changes it for that one print job.
At least, that's how it works with my Deskjet 812C...
