I am using Avast 5 and latest virus database. And for a while Avast has been dcing me without error. I looked at event viewer and i got this error.
Faulting module name: ashBase.dll, version: 5.0.677.0, time stamp: 0x4c8651b7
Exception code: 0x80000003
Fault offset: 0x00036a20
Faulting process id: 0x10b8
Faulting application start time: 0x01cb87a0fd28303f
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Contacts\wlcomm.exe

I uninstalled avast and it fixed the problem. But I like avast. What should be the problem?

You're saying with msn messenger 2009....
Is there a reason you can't run the current version of msn messenger/windows live?
I'm using Avast love it and I have windows live/messenger installed, actually just put on the newest version last night. I'm using Win 7 64 bit. I'll admit I did have issues with one of the older versions of msn though so perhaps an update of that will resolve.
Just my $0.02 though.
It may have been also that you had the firewall in Avast set to block the port msn was trying to use to connect.
