Hello,

The fan of my Geforce 2 GTS started making a lot of noise a few months
ago. I put some oil on it, which worked, but a few days ago it started
making noise again. The oil trick worked again but I'm afraid the fan
can break down any moment. So I'm looking for a replacement but the
problem is I can not find any retailstore which sells it. The model nr
is DC CHIP COOLER AP4512MX-G90

http://www.silma.dk/en/catalogue/specification.asp?product_id=7994

Does anyone know where to get a replacement (in Europe)? I don't want to
buy a new card for $5 fan. Or is it possible to run this videocard
without a fan?

Thanks

Why spend $5 for a fan on a $2 Grpahics Card?

Seriously though when mine started complaining I stuck on a Crystal Orb like
this one
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=35-116-003&depa=0
and it's still going well on my lil 4yo nieces P3 system...

I'd try unplugging the fan from the graphics card if you can. I have a
GeForce 2 GTS as well (Visiontek XTasy 5632), and that's all I did when
the fan on mine started making noise. I haven't had anything odd happen
since unplugging the fan and that includes running UT99 from time to time.

I've considered adding a heatsink like this to mine, but I'm not sure how
much work I want to put into this card.

My card has been running without the fan plugged in for close to a year
now, so I doubt you'd have a problem. On the other hand I wouldn't be too
upset if my card were to die from heat either.

Good luck,
Nate

Yep, same for me, my gforce3 has worked fine for a year with no fan. How
well you get by will depend on how well your case cools (and temperature of
the room that the computer is in).

My GTS2 fan starting making a lot of noise and I removed it. I added a 80mm
12V Panaflo low speed fan right above the card running at 5V. The fan it
attached to an existing bracket on the case, which just happend to work for
my particular case (but probably not for others).

But there are also bracket with a fan that you can buy from Zalman called
the FB123. Here is a link for the bracket (which attacthes to standard PCI
screws on any case even if the PCI slots are used):
http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/fb123.html
The fan will be blowing perpindicular to the video card but should provide
good airflow.

Another solution is an exhaust fan for a PCI slot such as this:
http://www.antec-inc.com/us/pro_details_cooling.php?ProdID=77094
which you would put in the first PCI slot next to your AGP video card.

If you have a power drill, buy an 80 mm hole saw and cut out a blow hole on
the side of your case, then aim an 80 mm fan at the video card.
