Video card freeze up? Ti4200 128 meg

Hi,
Probabaly the most frequently asked question on this news
server...why is my NVidia GeForce4 Ti4200 now crashing where the video
display simply freezes the frame and locks up all the controls? The
real pits. Is this a driver issue? I recently upgraded it through
the MS upgrade site, although the problems started before that
upgrade.

You sayd MS upgrade site. Is that MS as in Microsoft? if so dont upgrade
graphics drivers with win update ever period.
If you ment MSI site its fine i reconn, i prefer to go directly to
nvidia.com.Using the latest official (56.72) there with the same card and
its working flawlessly with the same card you have.
As for graphics corruption i presume its maybe a bios setting.Try with
"fastwrite" off or vice verca.Try upping the voltage one not on the agp slot
just to see if that fixes the problem if not turn it back to default.
Be shure you have the latest chipset drivers set for youre motherboard too.
It also could be a heat problem as stated at the above post.

Heat problems most likely. Check that the card's fan still spins
freely. If it doesn't, brush off the dust and put a dab of light
machine oil on the axel. She'll be right.

Thanks Tony. I already have a replacement fan on hand. Your idea
sounds like experience talking, and is a lot cheaper than the special
fan that the card requires. I locks up when there a lots of swift
moving texture changes and interaction with other players in
fast-action shoot 'em ups. I reduced the rendering quality to 'low'
in order to try and cool off the card a bit, but that did not help
much.

With that older card you SHOULD be using the 45.23 driver for stability.
The newer drivers are for the FX series cards which are DX9 capable, which
yours is not.

I Has a similar problem and I fixed it by replace the power supply with a
larger wattage and better quality. My lock up stop right away.
