Let me give this a shot...
I don't fully understand your setup and what you are trying to do... but if
you don't want AvantGo from updating everytime you get connected via
ActiveSync, then simply remove AvantGo from the ActiveSync list of
synchronized items. You can then use your Pocket PC's AvantGo sync found in
the Connections Settings to manually sync AvantGo even via Passthrough to
ActiveSync.

Thanks I thought I needed Avantgo to use the net with it off I can still
connect I notice did'nt realize this

if i'm not mistaken (and I usually am ) I believe there are some setting in
the activesync options for avantgo to allow it to sync only once a day.
this enables you to use the service without having to wait for the long
update everytime you sync.
