second computer my older ( Pentium 3) will be running windows 2000 pro. any

you sure you are up to the challenge?

Heres the short answer..2 NICS, ip forwarding

If you cant solve it from there, I suggest you get some help from someone
who can.

"Internet Connection Sharing". And it's a bit limited but might be adequate
for his needs.

Easy ... You're running XP Pro, so you have access to the Network
Setup Wizard. Run that, answer the questions on there (and they're
easy to understand too :) and the process should follow.

Running A7n8x deluxe here with a broadband cable modem hooking into
the 3com port, a Win98se machine hooking into the nForce port and a
laptop hooking into it via a USB-USB network lead. With the XP Pro
network setup wizard, it just works ...

Btw - I'm using the XP firewall, having ditched ZAP for being broken
and others for not allowing local area networking.
