I am setting up a home network and have computers all through my house. I want to have the lower level wired - only b/c its an unfinished basement. And I would like to have wireless going through the rest of the house. Is this possible - I am going to have the router for cabel access in the basement and then have it stream out from there.

yes. You can even get a router that is both a router and an access point.

Possible, though engineering it properly is key if you want good coverage, if it's possible to cover all areas you want with one AP. I'd drill up and put the AP on the first floor if you have an upstairs, second floor. If you just have the basement and one level up then you might be ok with the AP in the basement. Testing is the only way to find out.
