I see there have been lots of patronising and clueless responses to my
post, very amusing to read. There was really no pressing need for this
brouhaha, but I'm sure we all appreciate the entertainment. Not forcing
anyone to buy this, you understand that, right? Inaccurate remarks about
this *not* being a seller's market and about the card *not* being so
hard to find won't make me lower the asking price, since that is what
the item is worth. Your opinions can't alter the facts. Just because you
may believe Southampton is the capital city of the United Kingdom
doesn't automatically make it so. Such inane comments only serve to show
up your ignorance of today's graphics card market. If you don't like my
offer, ignore it. Move on. Let it go. If you think my asking price is
too high, then no-one will pay it, right? Then I'll have to reduce it.
That's how a free market operates. Get over it. You're not a.c.p.v.n's
price moderator or the designated pricing watchdog for the graphics card
market, so why waste your time arguing with sellers? Is it because you
want to help people avoid a bad deal because you think you're wiser and
more intelligent than everyone else who's here? I assure you, that's
statistically unlikely and judging by the quality and content of some of
the posts I've seen on this thread, it's frankly improbable. Or is it
perhaps because being argumentative, rude and contradictory on-line
breaks the boredom of your daily routine? Perhaps that's it. Some
replies to my post reminded me of the old adage which says that if a
million monkeys had a million typewriters to bash on for a million
years, we'd eventually get the complete works of Shakespeare. Thanks to
Usenet, I now know this not to be true.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who showed genuine interest in my card. I was
getting too many emails asking for specs, shipping costs and acceptable
payment methods so I decided to put the card up for auction on eBay with
all the terms and conditions spelled out in order to make it easier on
me to manage and fairer on all the potential buyers. IT HAS NOW BEEN
SOLD!!! You can find the link in some guy's previous post, looks like
he's got so much free time on his hands that in addition to teaching us
all that a one day old card ought to be considered second-hand and
educating us that 6800GT cards are not that hard to come by in the UK,
this kind soul has taken the time to go and find my auction link and
share it with you all for everyone's benefit. I thank him for increasing
the profile of my auction. He didn't even ask for commission, this good
samaritan.
The fact remains that these cards are very hard to come by right now in
the UK. Current supply is too low in relation to demand. Anyone who
claims otherwise really doesn't know what they're talking about. Just
because you see it advertised on a web store somewhere doesn't mean they
have immediate availability. Order one and see how long it takes you to
actually receive it. Plan on a lot of waiting. Instead of arguing this
point, make yourself useful and channel your pent-up energy into finding
one UK vendor who has stock and can offer next day shipping on the GT
cards and share with the rest of the readers here. I'm sure that would
help all the folks looking to source one. After all, Doom3 is just
around the corner.
As an aside, why do so many people hide their real identity when posting
here? I suppose in this day and age, when Google and a lot of other
search engines archive, index and save what one has to say forever,
there's a lot to be said for hiding your identity. Makes for an ideal
playground for cowards who like to swear, flame and lie though, doesn't
it? If you want your words to bear any weight, sign them with your name;
otherwise nothing distinguishes you from a troll. Food for thought...
