I have a P4 2.4 @ 2.7 and a 5950 Ultra - that will be enough to get around
20-30fps at high quality settings in Doom 3.
To get 40+ I'd need a 3.2 GHz+ CPU.
However, if I were to get a 6800GT it might be enough to get me to 60fps+ on
this P4 2.4 @ 2.7.
Any thoughts, and do *you* plan to upgrade yourselves?

I've been considering various upgrades. My gaming system has a P4 2.4C,
1 GB dual-channel DDR400 memory, and an FX5900XT video card.

Been thinking about a 6800GT myself. Best price/performance in the 6800
line. Plus it should be good for games coming out in the next 2 years or
so.

Since you already have a 5950 Ultra I wouldn't upgrade anything yet
unless you have less than 1 GB memory.

The Doom 3 demo should be coming out shortly after the game hits retail.
Once I have a chance to actually run the game on my system and see what
settings work well I'll be able to decide whether or not to upgrade
anything.

A new CPU is a definite possibility. A $400 AGP video card is less
likely since my next motherboard upgrade will probably only support PCI
Express video cards.
