Hi all I wonder if you can help me. I have just bought a XFX 5900xt 128
card a few days ago and it seems to be hit and miss with games as to how
well they run and it is getting to me now. I have the following PC:

XP2400+ 2.0 ghz
512 DDR Ram
Gigabyte ga7-va mobo
80 Gb and 25 Gb HD
DVD Writer and DVD Rom
XFX 5900xt 128 card
Soundblaster live 5.1 card
XP with SP1

On Need for Speed underground I get pauses on the 1st lap of all races at
any detail level, Far Cry I get pauses and stuttering. Games like Manhunt,
Beyond Good and Evil, Rainbow Six 3 and World championship snooker 2004 seem
to play OK. I have tried the newest drivers and older driver and am using
the 56.75 at the moment.

Any advice is appreciated as I am really disappointed with this £155 card as
my old fx5200 ran need for speed perfectly well. Thanks.

Forgot to mention, the pauses happen same place and same time in the games.
Thanks again.

Need for Speed under does that on purpose. It caches in certain places on
the first lap, you won't see it again after that. As far as Far Cry goes, I
have no idea what's doing that. Perhaps having less than a gig of RAM for
such an intense game causes HD caching.

Yeah loads of people ugraded to 1gb RAM after Far Cry was released - it has
certainly stopped my PC from pausing to load during games, not just Far Cry
but also UT2004...It's worth having a gig for most new games.
