Your system doesn't seem to be a low-end system so I recommend you use at
least a 400W PSU. nVidia, by the way, recommends something nearer to 500W
for their new baby.

I have 6800 GT in a shuttle XPC with a 200w PSU and it works fine (hammering
it for hours with Doom 3) - go figure

Well, I suggest you buy first the card itself, and if it doesn't work, then
I guess you'll just have to get yourself a new PSU.
The way I see it, if you already decided to pay so much money for a new
graphic card, you won't get a lot more headache by buying a cheap PSU.
But, like I wrote, you should try it first. Even my GF5900SP from MSI, which
has a huge cooling fan, is supposed to work with at least 350W, but it
turned out to work with no problems whatsoever with my PSU @ 300W.

P4 2.4C

Audigy 2
TV decoder
two HDs (RAID-0)
Leadtek 6800 GT
350W Enermax
works fine, no problems.
one thing i should note is that the Leadtek card (probably so are the other 6800s), is
relatively HUGE and HEAVY....even though i'm sure it conforms to the ATX standard...you
might find it difficult trying to fit that in your micro case.....oh, because of the
massive heatsink/fan, most 6800GT cards need two slots; AGP and the adjoining PCI slot.

Bigger PSU needed.

I ran a PNY 5700Ultra, recommended 350 watt supply, on a 185Watt supply for
seven months playing many hours of RTCW then Cod with no problems. I did
finally breakdrown and get a 350 watt supply though.

I used two different 300w supplies with a 6800Ultra,
clocked to 446/1.18. Worked fine.

Even if your 300 watt Enlight would be sufficient, which it could very
well be for a basic 6800, it'll be worked out like a Chinese
100-meter-sprinter in Olympics next to superfast Carl Lewis. If I
were you, I'd really start thinking of getting an Antec Truepower
power supply (430w-530w), which really is not an exaggeration any more
when it comes to Nvidia.

*Work* is a subjective term. I have a 6800GT that *works* with my
Antec Tru430. But it obviously needs a little more juice. My CPU
scores drop the higher the card is clocked. I get about a 10% CPU
increase by dropping to 300/900 in both Aquamark3 and 3dmark2001.
Actually the only time I see increases with higher clock rates on the
GPU is at high resolutions with AA. BTW

It does it in 3dmark as well. The only benchmark I had that went up
with an overclock was Doom3. 3dmark 2001 has about the exact same
scores with the GPU at 300/900,350/1000(stock) and 420/1130. But if
you look through the results, the higher CPU tests dropped as the GPU
went up. 3dmark 2003 gives me about 8000 at 300/900 and 8500 at
350/1000. It should be closer to 10,000. When I go to 420/1130 it
dropps to 7100. Doom 3 gives me 42.6/44.6/49 with those settings.
That is at 1600x1200 2xAA,8XAF.
I actually know I have a power issue now though. For one the PC did
not start up after I put the card in. It did not do so until I
unplugged the floppy. I also used a calculator to determine I'm using
more than my 12v rail can handle. About 22A. The PSU is rated for
20A.

My single light high polygon test in 2001 tripled! It was just barely
over 8 light before (42?). Now its about 117. Most of this was
reloading chipset drivers though.

What I'd want to know, from any "powerful" or a knowledgeable guy
here, is that what does it mean if your power supply has two separate
amperage values given to the 12V rail? I have a 400W power supply
from Q-technology that says 15A/12V1 and the other is 16A/12V2.

Maybe it has two separate 12v rails and lines.
I read a review of I think it was an Enermax 475 that had that.

So, if you have a heavy duty P4 and 6800 Ultra, would they use the
same rail or would it be possible to separate the juice consumption?

Yes I did. No problems turning it on any more However it was the
chipset drivers that fixed my speed problems.
