I have the chance of an XFX GeForce 6800 Gamers Edition 128MB DDR
TV-Out/Dual DVI for £176 or should i wait for the 6600 series to come out ?
I want the best value setup i can get - and wondered if the proposed price
of £150 - £200 for the 6600, and 6600gt would be worth waiting for.

Any advice would be great - thanks

I would say 6800...but since we dont know how the 6600 works, u could wait a
month, i'd still say 6800, i've seen a few preview benchmarks and they're
not that great.

a pund is 1.5 euros, right? Than for that money for me it would be a no
brainer, I would take it,since I am sure that the 6800 will be faster
because of 256bit memory against 128bit 6600GT.

No its not. PCI express first -- then AGP. Just need to wait a month
longer for AGP.

If you can squeeze your bank account for a month and live with rice
and mashed potatoes, I'd buy that 6800.

i think the 6600 are for the mainstream, meaning good price/performance. the
6800 are for enthusiasts. meaning the best performance, but you're paying
extra for it. the 6600 isn't for extreme gamers, but it does have a few extra
tricks the 6800 doesn't have.

will you be waiting for the 6600 reelase because yout hink the price of the
6800 will come down or do you want to purchase 6600?

I just want the best value, with the highest chance of it lasting longer.
I have an MSI 4200 at present and have completed Doom 3 at 800x600 - played
well, but i feel its time to upgrade - ready for HL 2.
Info on the 6600`s is thin and after seeing the XFX card at that price just
wonderes what the "group" felt

What are the tricks that the 6600 has out of interest?

I was like you I thought about waiting for 6600GT, but I went for the plain
6800. The difference in price is going to be about $80.00 - $100.00. The
BFG card included FarCry in the box and Best Buy had a free rebate for DOOM
3.(About $90.00 in free games) I figured that the 6800 should perform
better than the 6600GT, because of the 4 extra pipes. Better investment for
the long term. I hope I'm right.
Now about performance. I'm able to get 47.9 frames per second in DOOM 3.
Run at 10x7 with med settings. with all of my normal software running in the
background. (a real life benchmark) Farcry has hiccups @ 10x7 with high
settings, I may turn the settings down in Farcry but it sure looks cool.

My system Asus A7N8X, Athlon 2400+, 512meg DDR (thinking of getting 1
gig)

I built this P.C. last weekend;

Abit KV8 Pro
2x 512MB Twinmos PC3200
AMD Athlon 64 3200
Inno3d Geforce 6800
Maxtor 160Gb.

Upgraded from;

Chaintech KT333 (forget model No.)
2x 512MB Twinmos PC2700
AMD Athlon 1400
Leadtek Geforce 4 TI4200
Western Digital 80GB.

There is a night and day difference between Doom 3 on the old machine
compared to the new one, overall, very happy with this setup.

I sincerely hope that, with your card, you actually play Doom3 in high
quality at at least 1024 x 768. Otherwise, you are wasting that card.

There better be. ;)
>overall, very happy with this setup.

I'm building an AMD64 system also that I plan to put this card in,
I'll be going from a
Asus a7v333 2100+
9800pro

TO a
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
AND64 3000+
and of course the 6800 OC
But I've run into a MB failure so haven't gotten it together yet (mail
order is a pain if the item doesn't work)

Have you run 3dMarks on that system ?
I would be interested in your scores.

I had the 64 bit system together for a day before it blew up but it
only had a 9800 pro in it and the 3dmarks on that setup was like
aprox. 5800. The 6800 in this old 2100+ system are over slightly 8000.

SO it should cook pretty good in the soon to be AND 64 system I
waiting on.
