6 stars?

Try as I might, I simply *cannot* get 6 stars in GTA:SA. I had no problem
achieving this in GTA3 and VC.

This makes it kinda hard to get a tank, which I want to obtain before I try
the vigilante missions (again). Strangely, I never had any problem doing
the vigilante missions with the previous two games.

Is there a location where the vigilante missions are easier? I tried going
out into some little country villages (so there's less traffic, and I don't
need to be too concerned with perfect cornering), but eventually everybody
drives back in town...thus I'm trying to get a tank.

I've been thinking about having a bash at the vigillante missions but
I'm wondering if there is any where similar to sunshine autos where a
pay and spray and garage are very close to each other. I can't think
of any places that are that close together.

VC veterans will probably guess what I'm planning on doing - saving a
fed car in the garage, doing the missions, get lots of *'s, respraying
the fed car, carrying on :-D

Contrary to a lot of theories I've read on the message boards, I'm
pretty sure that you have to unlock the desert/Las Venturas first.
Any time previous to that and 5 stars is your limit.

Two Rhino tanks do become available at area 69 soon after this point,
although I'm not sure exactly. I

I did mine first in Los Santos (Which took a few tries) on the
CHiPS-style motorcycle (HPV1000?). This has the benefits of good
handling, a fair top speed and the ability to fire foreward as well as
to the sides with any of the sub-machine guns.

On most of my run-throughs I've left the Vigilante until I've unlocked
the pilot school, then it's a case of getting all gold to unlock the
Hunter. You'll probably have more luck in the Hunter than using a
Rhino, but I suppose it's down to what your skill as a pilot is. I find
it much easier in a Hunter, as I used this in VC for a long time after
a few 100% completions.

I do have the whole game unlocked. I haven't done any of the missions that
let me *buy* houses in Las Venturas yet, but I do see the (red) houses on
the map.

Been there--a few times. Do the tanks spawn randomly, or can I expect one
to always be available somewhere? I haven't seen a single one...

Until those houses turn green, Las Venturas isn't properly unlocked.
You'll have to play through the airstrip missions before you can unlock
the LV strands of missions.

Presumably they start to spawn when you can get 6 stars. They normally
appear in the buildings in little compound which can be accessed by
driving a car through the breakable fence on it's south. There's also a
Leviathan, Patriot and Barracks OL that spawn in here, plus it's also
possible to blow up the SAM launchers with grenades or other explosives.

As with VC (and possibly 3 -- I'm not sure), you can only get 4 stars at
first. Then, as you progress in the game, 5 becomes possible, and finally
6. I don't know what the qualifying events are, however.

The tanks, too, spawn later in the game, at the military base (probably
after the mission that takes place there).

Play on, I guess, and keep checking these things every so often.

I think what Martin means is that you can no longer move the turret and
it will stay in place. Now it moves with the camera, so which ever way
you point the camera, the turret will move to suit.

Does come in handy that you can now fire up and down though, as I've
stated before on this group I really like taking the police choppers
out!

I've just completed the airfield asset , and after that you have access to
the jetpack at any time.
Use that to fly into area 69 and there are a couple of tanks parked up that
you can steal and then go on a vigilante killing spree.

After about 5-10 minutes of driving over as many FBI wagons as I could find
the wanted level popped up to six stars and other tanks started spawning.

I had a nice running battle with them round las venturas , but then my tank
finally died as did I

On a similiar note, has anyone tried driving all the way around San
Andreas with a 5/6 star wanted level?

Follow the most-outside roads, my best is 22-24 minutes going
anti-clockwise. Give it a try, it's great fun, and you get to see all
the police AI in axion. It seems that by the time the army got called
out (Just going into SF I think) they get wise to all your usual ways
of avoiding roadblocks. The army are still quite dumb though, although
they do have the foresight to position tanks behind, to the side and in
front of you to ram you off the road.

I presume you don't mean using the one car. ;-)

Well, the best car I've found to use is the Patriot as it's the most
helpful off-road. Of course, sticking to the freeways it becomes
slightly more difficult. A Roadtrain or similiar vehicle isn't bad, but
it does make you a big target with little in the way of acceleration.

I think I had to swap cars about half-way down the Julius Thruway, just
my luck that another road user wanted to get rid of his shiny new
FCR-900 )

I've also been trying to get all the way round, starting at LS stadium
and finishing at the same place, using just the *ONE* Rhino.
Came close this morning, got as far as the bridge that leads across to
the Rodeo area of western-LS, then some bastard rammed me off the cliff
and into the water.
