What is the best driver for Ti-4200 now a days ?
It ued to be 44.03 (all newer were slower).
Is this still true (both for Win98 and WinXP) ?

BTW: Anyone now where to get Asus-8420 drivers version 29.41
(have them for Win98, need the WinXP version, there are some
files I need there - to make a good hybrid with 44.03

For those who see problems with the latest drivers, 45.23 is considered a
safe bet.

I'm still using the 44.03's also. I didn't like any of the newer drivers there
seemed to be too much loss in speed. There is suppose to be a slightly better
version then the 44.03's, but I don't know the exact version just that it's in
the 45's.

I have read posts that the newer drivers work better though using a 4200 with
Doom3. So if you play Doom3 you might want to give the newer drivers a try.

The most stable and versatile driver for the 4200 is the 45.23.

I've had nothing but hassle getting mine to work with doom 3 - is this under
XP?

I would say so because I believe Doom3 is a WinXP only game.

44.67
Runs every game and maintains almost the same speed in benchmarks as older
drivers.
Ofcourse 44.03 is also good but i always preferred the 41.09,
alas,newer games don't run on those and after some googling i found the
44.67
a very good alternative.
Make some safe points when with xp and try them.
I always run 3dmark2001se since my ti4400 is somewhat older today and the
results are very different between de nvidia driver series.
Also run your fav games and try to "feel" if it's different.

Hi,

I installed the NVidia 61.77 reference drivers for my Creative Ti4200,
and got a 20% boost in performance; going from 9900 in 3DMark 2001 to
11000 or so. There was a near doubling of the frame rate in the nature
demo section of the benchmark.

I have never noticed any improvement with newer drivers on my 4200. Especially
with 3Dmark as a guide.
Which driver version did you upgrade from? I might give the 61.77's a try based
on what you posted. I don't believe I ever tested that version.

Hi,

I can't remember exactly, but they may have been the 53.03 drivers.

I have found the 61.77s very stable.

I have a P4 2.4 OCd to 2.6
Slightly overclocking my Ti4200 too.

Note this overclocking was done BEFORE my change of drivers though. So
it is definately an improvement due to drivers.

I tried the 61.77's and lost 1500 points in 3Dmark. I also noticed the point
sprites test does not look right anymore. The texture on the horse is see
through and messed up IMO.

Yes I noticed the messsed up point sprites. But I still got the 20%
increase.

That's a good point to notice.
Hm,well,every machine will have different results with different drivers.
We can only tell what works best for our own pc.
I had with most newer drivers a 3dmark2001se score of around 10200
With 41.09 it went up to almost 12000
44.03 gave me 11000 and 44.67 gives 11500
Also my games feel better with that 44.67 driver,but it's really system and
chipset dependent.
Don't look at the highest scores but at the increase or decrease from mine.
Also i have ti4400 but the clocksettings and os and other settings were
always the same when testing.
As a final note i want to mention that win98se gave better scores then winxp
pro.
There are many forums that deal with this issue and it should be easy to
find some threads about speed and quality differences for nvidia drivers.

Right there a red flag should go up. I don't know if there are any new games
that use point sprites, but I wouldn't use the drivers just because of that. I
also don't see how you got such an improvement. I tested a few times. I made
sure vsync, AA and AF all off. I set my overclock to its usual settings and I
lost 1500 points.
What version DirectX are you using? What Windows version? What are your other
system specs?

Oh brother, now I have to test the 44.67's!

I was perfectly happy with the 44.03's but nooooooooooooooo you had to post an
improvement. Maybe next time you can keep your improvements to yourself so I
can just relax and be happy with my 44.03's. : )

1GB Kingston RAM with CAS set to 2 in Bios.
MSI NEO2 FISR Motherboard.
Creative GeForce Ti4200 64MB.

I usually run all my games at 1024 by 768 32 bit colours.
Runs all my fave games:Tron 2.0,Neverwinter Nights,UT2004,
NFS Underground

It runs Doom 3 at 800 by 600 pretty smoothly.

Sorry, I made a slight mistake. I checked my previous posts, because
this topic has come up before.

My numbers actually went from 8300 to 9900 in 3DMark2001; not 9900 to
11000 as I originally stated! Still a 20% increase or so.

If you type in "61.77", "NVidia" and "increase" into groups.google you
will get to see my original post and some other people talking about
improvements seen with Doom3.

This was all in the light of discussions of getting a 6800GT, which
I'm planning on soon anyway.

You still got an improvement. My score went way down using the 61.77's I
believe you posted the nature test score went up, with me it went down by
around 10 fps. I have read some other posts about Doom3 getting better
framerate using newer drivers with a 4200. I don't have Doom3 so I can't test
that.

I would wait a few months for the 6600. Evene if it doesn't bench all that
great. The prices of everything else should get lower.
