Does anyone know if a 6340i can be made GSM only so Cingular will see it as
acceptable on their GSM network. They distributed these phones because they
would be usable as they switched to GSM but now that they have they say its
a gait phone and if I want to switch to GSM I'll have to buy GSM 'only'
phones.

If you put a GSM only account's sim card in
a 6340i it is a GSM only phone. I have one in
my pocket set up like that right now.

Cingular has been selling it. I fail to see what your question is. It works on
the Cingular system as is.

the problem is they say it's a gait phone and I can't use it on a 'GSM
only' plan due to the fact it would switch to the gait network if it has a
stronger signal and it would charge as roaming since I'm not on their
'GSM' system

I just had a rep. at the Cingular Center turn off roaming because I was
constantly being switched to AT&T non-GSM system. It works fine now.
When I travel, he said I shouls go back and have the roaming re-installed.
