We don't have religion-based elections in the UK just yet like they do in
the US. No preachers here telling people that God wants them to vote
Republican.

So is the UK....
I can see us good normal (And most of all *sane*) gamers are going to
get tied up with another Manhunt-style argument on gaming violence.
I still think it's really funny how other companies who produce just as
violent games are not taking as much flak as Rockstar Games are. Was
there this kind of outrage when the original Tenchu was released on the
PSone?
"...David Walsh, founder of the National Institute on the Media and the
Family, a Minneapolis-based group ... monitors the industry.
Walsh criticized Rockstar for what he called a "carefully worded statement"
that leaves the impression that "modders" are responsible for the content.
"They did not take responsibility for the fact that this code was created
within their company and placed on disks and shipped to responsible
retailers."
Okay, so R* created the code. However, they decided not to use it in the
original release. Assuming they didn't tell anyone (outside the company)
about it, then it is *entirely* down to the 'modders' for making it
available.

Ole Mary W had a lot of clout in her days.

soft targets. They know Rockstar, like the makers of Postal, don't
have much of a leg to stand on. Probably why there IS that moral bent
on CJ.

Look at the sharp downturn in violent crime, which co-incides with the
popularity of first-person shooters (Doom came out in 1993).
Co-incidence? Maybe. Was there some change in U.S. policy or culture
around this time?

I thought of another instance just after I posted.
A while ago when Acorn computers were still going fairly strong,
Krisalis and a few other companies ported a load of quite recent Amiga
games, such as Sensible Soccer, Lemmings and it's numerous sequels and
Cannon Fodder.
I can still remember a chap who sent letters to all three of the main
Acorn mags outraged that such (And I quote) "Horrific violence on out
humble system". Portent of doom about the whole video-gaming violence
thing or what?
I suppose it didn't help that Cannon Fodder had a theme tune called
'War Has Never Been So Much Fun', but sheesh, they're cartoon pixels
firing machine-gun pixels at other armed pixels. GTA (And all other
even slightly violent games) are just a lot more detailed and graphic.
Maybe it's subliminal messaging: "Play our war game, join the Army!

I'm sure they're just looking for easy targets. Anyone who can get
really turned on or incited to use violence in real life from these
pixelated fun factories has a serious problem which needs medical
attention.
We just have to look at harry Potter (Which I ****ing hate!) and the
kick up from silly religious fanatics and attention seekers saying it
was teaching our kids about the occult. Jees, even the kids can see
it's just a story.

My question is this and sorry if this has been asked before but
jumping in the thread late...
If Rockstar is having the game pulled and changed to an AO rating of
Adults Only... Does this mean they are going to unlock the code to
have the sexual mission in the game now without the Mod?
I mean if the only way to see it was with the Mod and the game was
rated M for Mature and now it's going to be rated AO; Adults Only then
screw the Mod... I'll take my game back and buy the AO version and
expect the sexual mission unlocked...

I have serious doubts they'll unlock it deliberately.

) Sorry... but did you spot this little story for silly buggers?
"Potter ending revealed to drivers
Scores of fans of the latest Harry Potter book have had their
enjoyment ruined after pranksters revealed the outcome of the book on
a banner.
Motorists heading along the A442 near Telford came across the banner
complete with the plot-spoiling words on Thursday morning.
Council workers had removed it from a footbridge by lunchtime.
The long-awaited sixth edition of the Harry Potter series was issued
at midnight on Friday.
A spokesman for Telford and Wrekin council said: "People in the know
tell us it had the outcome of the Harry Potter book on it.
"This does have a serious side to it as if the banner had fallen down
it could have serious consequences for motorists."

I think part of this might have to do with the fact that Rockstar Games is
owned by Take-Two Interactive, and they already got in trouble over The Guy
Game, where one of the girls filmed flashing her breasts for the game was
actually under 18.
