the smell of doom

for those of you who aren't always in irc my notebook has been acting up lately.

I ran memtest and discovered a very strange problem, with the cpu cache on it would generate errors and lots of them but with it off no errors at all! so I figured it was the cpu. I opened her up yanked out the cpu and plugged in another k6 when I turned it on and ran memtest I got great scores and no errors with cache on. I decided to run toast to make sure all was stable and about 6minutes into the test there was a loud pop and the smell of doooooommm! yes my cpu had overheated. I opened it up yanked out the 2nd dead processor and tried once more with a pentium mobile 233, the daughter card which it fit into was scortched and smelt but I figured why not, I plugged the battery in and turned it on and walla! success! it worked! but it wasn't fast enough. I increased the multiplier and lowered the voltage to 2.1v and shouted hurray as it booted at 266mhz! I ran memtest with no errors and now I'm on toms telling everyone my horror story, this laptop is the girl who survived jason maimed but alive! time to run some tests and hope I don't hear any pops or smell any doom for a while at least...

i got a p2 233 laptop, runs windows xp, runs office xp and does internet just fine.

Man, you're running win XP on a 233 mHz laptop? That must be a SLOOOOOWWWWWW bootup. I thought min reqs for win XP was a 400 mHz CPU adn 128 Megs RAM?

I got a Pentium 200 running Win 98, but no way would I run XP on that thing.
