Ive read that this is possible, but in my game it doesnt give me the option (its grayed out) and forces me to use DirectX.
I have a 6800GT, 2.8ghz P4, and 1 GIG of DDR3200. Would it run better in OpenGL? Pluses? Minuses?

Also, I found a config file that tweaked some game settings in Doom3, that added 7-10 fps and really smoothed out gameplay. I
havent found such a thing for Far Cry. Any of you have one? This is what it looks like for Doom3:

seta com_allowconsole "1"
seta image_anisotropy "1"
seta r_gamma "1.5"
seta g_fov "99"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "256"
seta image_cacheMinK "4096"
seta image_roundDown "0"
seta r_shadows "0"
seta g_projectilelights "1"
seta g_bloodEffects "1"
seta g_decals "0"
seta g_muzzleFlash "0"
seta g_doublevision "0"
seta g_showBrass "0"
seta g_showPlayerShadow "0"
seta r_displayRefresh "75"
seta g_nightmare "1"
seta pm_runbob "0"

seta pm_runroll "0"
seta pm_walkbob "0"
seta pm_bobpitch "0"
seta pm_bobroll "0"
seta pm_bobup "0"
seta pm_crouchbob "0"
seta r_vertexBufferMegs "64"
seta r_orderIndexes "1"
seta r_usePortals "1"
seta r_useOptimizedShadows "1"
seta r_ignoreGLErrors "1"
seta r_useShadowCulling "1"
seta r_useStateCaching "1"
seta r_useIndexBuffers "0"
seta r_useVertexBuffers "1"
seta r_useCachedDynamicModels "1"
seta r_useTwoSidedStencil "1"
seta r_useTurboShadow "1"
seta r_useTripleTextureARB "1"
seta r_useConstantMaterials "1"

seta com_purgeAll "1"
seta com_videoRam "128"
seta image_downSizeBump "1"
seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "1024"
seta cm_backFaceCull "1"

I put this in a autoexec.cfg and put it in the /base folder for Doom3 so it loads up when the game starts. Anything like this
for FarCry?

OpenGL is beta and uses a reduced feature set - i.e. no shader model 2.0/3.0
and no OpenEXR HDR lighting. It will probably even run slower on your 6800
GT compared to DX9.

The Doom 3 config file also reduces image quality appreciably. It's your
choice to go with smoother framerates or more eyecandy, but it's a tradeoff,
not magic.
